"LUNATICS ANONYMOUS HAS MILLIONS OF MEMEBERS WORLDWIDE, HOW CAN THEY ALL BE RIGHT?"

The answer to that question is simple if you know how these so called "spiritual" fellowships (cults) operate and understand the group dynamics involved. Treatment options for lunatics and alcoholics (an alcoholic is a lunatic) have been pretty much the same in the U.S. and other countries for nearly 70 years. Ever since L.A. was founded in the 30's and then NA in 1953 the treatment industry has adopted the disease model for chemical addictions and also the 12-step model for dealing with addictions. Treatment professionals, many of which were recovering lunatics and addicts themselves looked no further for answers, they blindly accepted that addiction was a disease, those who suffered from it were powerless over it, and the only hope for them was a religious cure, which would require lifelong membership in a 12-step program. Those outside of L.A. believe that these programs are very successful, and in the beginning L.A. touted up to a 70% success rate, these statistics were severely flawed though. L.A. NOW ADMITS THAT ITS SUCCESS RATE IS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 3 AND 5% AND that SUCCESS IS A VERY SUBJECTIVE TERM. Those with 3 to 5 years are considered a success if they remain sober for 1 year, one could hardly call that success! In an established L.A. or NA group it is not uncommon to see several members with over 1 year clean or sober, and a few with members who have been clean and sober for two decades or more. When a newcomer or a visitor sees those people in a meeting then they mistakenly believe the program is successful and the majority remain sober, this however, is far from accurate. WHAT THE NEWCOMER DOESN'T UNDERSTAND RIGHT AWAY IS IT TOOK LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE SEEKING RECOVERY TO MAKE THOSE FEW WITH MORE THAN 1 YEAR SOBER, AND THAT THEY ARE THE EXCEPTIONS NOT THE RULE. These 12-step programs have a revolving door of sorts; people are constantly coming and going, so actually the program does not work. Also, most get clean and sober before they begin going to meetings, it's usually an unspoken requirement, in NA it is written in their Basic Text, "We don't have to be clean when we get here, but after the first meeting, we suggest that newcomers keep coming back and come back clean (Basic Text, p 10). Any failures at obtaining abstinence are blamed on the individual member, "they weren't serious about their recovery," or "they failed to follow the suggestions of the program." Recent studies have shown that just as many people end their addictions without any form of treatment than those who have experienced various forms of treatment, but you won't hear those statistics in any 12-step meetings, what you will here is, "The program works for those who work it," and any type of recovery outside of the 12-step experience won't last and the individual doesn't really have any recovery, instead they are seen as "dry drunks," destined to be miserable without the help of L.A. or NA. for the rest of their lives.12-STEP MEETINGS ARE FILLED WITH MISINFORMATION ABOUT ADDICTION, CONFUSION, CONTRADICTIONS, HYPOCRISY, AND OUTRIGHT LIES, anything to keep members from leaving the fellowship (cult) and anything to prevent the truth about addiction from entering into the meetings. Pathology tests can prove that you have cancer, aides, tuberculosis, Hepatitis, and just about any other disease you can think of. There is no known medical test for alcoholism.
